This red wine grape with its roots in Northern Italy is often tart and rustic, making it a perfect pairing for rich, savory dishes. This one from Oregon's Willamette Valley fits the bill beautifully. Flavors of tart cherry find a beautiful balance with firm, textured tannins before leading to a finish of dusty earth. Aromas of ripe black fruit are framed by floral and herbal notes and a hint of black pepper.
