Savor Northwest Announces Its Top Wines of 2022

More than 150 Northwest wines representing some of the top wines of 2022 were awarded Gold Medals at the Savor Northwest Wine Awards competition in early March. The single blind competition, where judges only know the varietal they are evaluating, also selected the Northwest's Top Red Wine, Top White Wine and Savor Northwest's 2022 Wine of the Year.

The top awarded winery was Roseburg Oregon's Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards with six Gold Medals or better, including Double Gold Medal awards for their 2020 Moscato Estate Selection, 2020 Gruner Veltliner Estate Selection and 2019 Winemaker's Reserve Syrah.

Three other wineries claimed five Gold Medal or higher awards including Snoqualmie Washington's Sigillo Cellars, Woodinville Washington's Brian Carter Cellars and Monroe Oregon's Bluebird Hill Cellars. Sigillo's awards included a Best of Class for their 2019 Malbec, while Bluebird Hill claimed a Best of Class for their 2019 Red Blend, a mix of Syrah and Pinot Noir.

Hood River Oregon's Cathedral Ridge Winery also had a strong showing, winning four Gold Medals or better, three of them earning Best of Class including their 2018 Merlot, 2018 Reserve Barbera and 2018 Syrah. Other wineries collecting four Gold Medal or higher awards included Carlton Oregon's Chris James Cellars, Bainbridge Island Washington's Eleven Winery, Woodinville Washington's Finn Hill Winery and Walla Walla Washington's Golden Ridge Cellars. Golden Ridge Cellars claimed Best of Class awards for their 2017 Cabernet Franc and 2017 Hunter's Red Blend.

Langley British Columbia's Chaberton Estate Winery was the most awarded Canadian winery, collecting three Gold Medals.

The 2022 Savor Northwest competition, conducted annually in Cannon Beach Oregon, concluded with all Best of Class wines being re-evaluated to select a Best Red Wine, a Best White Wine and a Wine of the Year. The top red, white, rose, sparkling and dessert wines where tasted by all nine judges in a final flight to select the Savor Northwest Wine of the Year and that honor went to the Monte Ferro Winery 2021 Pinot Gris. The Best Red Wine of 2022 went to Blakeslee Vineyard Estate 2020 Delilah's Cuvee Pinot Noir. Other wines in the running for Savor Northwest Wine of the Year included the top Rose, King Estate Winery's 2021 Rose of Pinot Noir; the top dessert wine, Chris James Cellars' 2020 Late Harvest Semillon dessert wine; and the top Sparkling wine, Walla Walla's Yellowhawk 2021 Bubbles White.
